As part of a still young series of events in which we would like to bring former programme participants of the ‘Ph.D. and beyond’ programme into contact with current programme participants for the purpose of exchanging experiences and networking, we welcome Dr. Torge Steensen to our third meeting.
In 2015/2016, Torge took part in the two-semester qualification programme 'Ph.D. and beyond' qualified to acquire management skills for non-university careers, which was first offered in the 2010/2011 winter semester; he was already in his postdoc phase at Leibniz University at the time. Torge completed his doctorate at the Geophysical Institute of the University of Fairbanks Alaska, USA. Since March 2017, after his postdoctoral period (2013-2017) at the Institute of Photogrammetry and GeoInformatics in the field of remote sensing, Torge has been working at Continental, initially as a test engineer until March 2022 and later as a risk manager. He recently took on a new area of responsibility, which he developed internally. During the interview, he will tell us how such processes work and what exactly he does in his new position.
At this informal after-work event in a ‘green’ environment, Torge will tell us why he took part in the programme back then, how his not-so-obvious career path (as a geophysicist at tyre manufacturer Continental!) has developed since then, how his decision-making processes in this regard have evolved and also what his current field of activity and the associated requirements feel like.
