Science Pitch - put your research in a nutshell!

Not just since the invention of the Science Slam has it been important for scientists to promote their achievements by summing up the key points of their research in a few sentences. While the science slam can be entertaining, other contexts (e.g. appointment negotiations or fundraising) need more expediency or scientific accuracy.
To be successful the pitch must be tuned to the ears of the audience, consider the context and target a clear goal: a pitch for founding a start-up in front of investors is structured differently than a pitch at an expert-conference or a pitch for presenting yourself while talking privately to scientists during lunch-break at a meeting.

In the workshop, we focus on the following topics:

  • Why should I pitch - I can explain it so well?
  • Break down core ideas - reduce complexity
  • Which (scientific) terms can remain in my pitch - which ones can I reword and how?
  • Pitch for specific settings (e.g. explaining a poster presentation, networking-settings, application process, initiating cooperation, etc. ...)
  • "It's not about my topic, it's about me" - pitch for your personal professional profile

In active exercises with feedback, you will learn to condense your research project content-wise and reduce its complexity.

It is necessary that you use your own research project for the practical exercises in the workshop.
